Spring Mountaineering and Ski Touring
Hakuba has alpine mountain ranges spreading north and south of town and also to the west behind the main range. As the days warm and lengthen in spring our terrain starts to offer very good options for traditional mountaineering and also extended ski touring itineraries.
Some ideas include:
- Climbing the three peaks in spring.
- Skiing from the summit of Hakuba Yari ga Take (2903m) and using the natural hot springs as a base camp.
- Touring far over the back range into some of Japan’s best ski touring terrain.
- Use the comfortable Renge Onsen facilities as a base camp for day tours.
- Climbing the east ridge of Shirouma Dake (2932m) or Kashima Yari ga Take (2889m).
- Traversing the full length of the Hakuba main range.
- Climbing Goryu Dake (2814m).
We ski well into May and although the trips become longer and at times more demanding, Hakuba continues to offer terrain and snow for both satisfying adventure and alpine skill building.
Hakuba is way more than just some ski resprt town. If you love mountains, Hakuba Alpine Guides can help you enjoy them.
